Fortnite, one of the top third-person shooter games, attracts millions of players every year.
It’s more straightforward and beginner-friendly compared to complex, strategic games like Call of Duty. Still, to win matches, players need to employ tactics and master in-game strategies.
As someone who’s either just starting out and aiming to rank high in Battle Royale, or an experienced player looking to improve and win more consistently, it’s crucial to know key tips.
While there are many strategies for finding chests, battling opponents, and avoiding the storm, I will guide you on the most critical tips for winning matches.
1. Find Weapons Right Away
The moment I land on the island, my priority is to find weapons like rifles, handguns, and stun grenades.
These weapons are key for defending myself against opponents while dodging the storm.
I make sure to search houses, cabins, and chests not just for weapons but also for healing items to maintain my health.
Whenever I get into a fight, healing items are a lifesaver for getting my health back up.
I also keep an eye out for better weapons to upgrade my arsenal as I move forward.
My go-to setup includes a mix of a shotgun for close encounters, an assault rifle for versatility, a sniper rifle for distance shots, a grenade launcher for explosive situations, and, of course, plenty of healing items to keep me going.
2. Secure High Ground in the Endgame
In the final moments, having the high ground is key. It limits how much I need to move and offers a clear view for taking down opponents quickly.
I can set myself up on a tower, mountain, or build a tall ramp. Shooting from above is easier than from lower or even ground.
While holding the high ground, I avoid the storm circle’s edge to prevent unnecessary damage, especially when it’s down to the last few players.
The shrinking circle can cause panic, affecting my aiming and shooting precision.
3. Aim for Headshots
Headshots are key in Fortnite. The game gives players a health bar of 100, which goes down when they’re hit, and where they’re hit matters.
Shots to the legs, torso, or shoulder chip away at health slowly, requiring multiple shots to fully take someone out.
But a headshot? That’s a different story.
It deals massive damage and can drastically reduce an opponent’s health bar, making headshots a must.
Not only do they save me ammo, but they also save time, letting me move on quickly.
To get better at landing headshots, I practice in Gun Game modes that help sharpen my aiming and firing skills.
4. Aim for Rare Weapons
Rare weapons pack a bigger punch. In Fortnite, weapons are color-coded to show how rare they are.
The rarer the weapon, the more damage it does, making it possible to take down enemies with fewer shots, headshots included.
Having rare weapons boosts my chances of winning since I can do more damage and eliminate opponents faster.
These high-rarity weapons often reload quicker, and some even come with a silencer, helping me stay hidden when firing.
The game’s sound is top-notch, so using silenced weapons can be a game-changer.
Fortnite sorts weapons into different rarities:
- Grey: Common
- Green: Uncommon
- Blue: Rare
- Purple: Epic
- Orange: Legendary
- Gold: Mythic
5. Stick to the Storm Circle’s Edge
I’ve found that staying near the Storm Circle’s edge in Fortnite can be counterintuitive since the storm can damage and even eliminate you.
Yet, many players rush to escape the storm early, leading to a lot of action in the center and not much at the edges. This strategy has improved my chances of survival.
After landing, I always check where the storm is forming and keep an eye on it.
When the game warns of the storm, I don’t immediately run towards the new circle. I wait until the storm is almost upon me before moving.
Using this method until the match’s final stages often ensures I’m among the top 5 survivors.
6. Sneak Up!
Sneaking up on opponents gives me a strategic edge.
While avoiding the storm, I watch for others doing the same and try to catch them off guard by sneaking up or taking long-distance shots.
This often catches them by surprise, making it easier to take them down before they can even react.
After I start shooting, I keep the pressure on to stop them from healing or fleeing.
If they try to block my shots with a wall, I keep firing to break through their defense before they can get their bearings.
This approach works well for me, especially when I’m not as confident in direct confrontations or quick aiming.
7. Improve Your Building Speed
As soon as I see an enemy or hear shots fired, I start putting up walls and ramps to protect myself.
This ability can change the outcome of fights, letting me create a vantage point or a makeshift shelter from attacks.
I work on my building skills in quieter parts of the map or in the game’s Creative Mode to get faster and more precise.
It’s important to know what kind of structure to build depending on the situation.
TIP: For instance, a quick box with a ramp inside can give you a height advantage for better shooting angles in no time.
