Epic Games has announced a delay for the highly anticipated Proximity Chat feature in Fortnite, pushing its release to Q4. This news has left many fans disappointed, as they had eagerly awaited this social interaction enhancement scheduled for June.
Fortnite offers a variety of game modes, each catering to different player preferences. Proximity Chat is expected to enhance the social aspect within Fortnite Creative, albeit with safety measures. The delay was confirmed by leaker ShiinaBR, indicating that players will need to wait a few more months before experiencing this new feature.
When Will Proximity Chat Become Available in Fortnite
Proximity Chat is set to launch in Fortnite later in 2024, specifically in the final quarter between October and December. Initially, this feature will be limited to Fortnite Creative mode, providing a controlled environment to assess its impact and address any potential issues.
The inclusion of Proximity Chat introduces several precautions to ensure player safety. For instance, access to Proximity Chat will be restricted based on a player’s account settings and the specific Creative map in use. Only those with Proximity Chat enabled in their settings and participating in compatible Creative maps will experience this feature.
Cabined Accounts further enhance safety for younger players. These specialized accounts prevent access to all voice chat features, including Proximity Chat. This measure ensures that younger users within the Fortnite community remain protected from any potentially harmful interactions.
Fortnite is available on numerous platforms including PC, iOS, Mobile, Xbox One, Android, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Switch. Developed by Epic Games and first released in July 2017, Fortnite has grown significantly in popularity with genres spanning Survival and Battle Royale and offering a comprehensive online multiplayer experience.
Implementing Proximity Chat exclusively in Creative mode allows developers to fine-tune the feature before considering a broader rollout. This careful approach reflects Epic Games’ commitment to maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment for all players.
